December 2010

Greetings from the MoonHouse in lovely south Austin, Texas

Happy Holidays, friends and neighbors.  Another year has slipped past us and we're still standing.  We performed in 7 countries in 2010, attended the Grammys and Folk Alliance, survived several visits to doctors and dentists, helped 3 of our parents move into new homes, bought a grand piano and a banjo, lost a few dear friends to illness, and learned that we're going to be grandparents.  All in all, a pretty good year.  Thanks for following along and helping fuel our musical adventures.  Chris and Christine

Due to changes at The Wild Basin and Christine's attendance at The Grammys, we have decided to take a break from the Annual Valentine's Day French Show this year.  We promise it will be back and encourage you to enjoy the romance of Chris Gage and his Monday night gig at Donn's Depot.  Perhaps Ms. Albert will even join him for some musical love.  Thank you for understanding!

We've been invited to perform at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar again this year!

Wednesday, December 22, 3:30 (afternoon show).
Note: it will be at the Palmer Events Center this year and not the Convention Center or Music Hall.  Details below.
Jingle Bells!!

MoonHouse Records artists include Albert and Gage, Christine Albert, Michael Austin, Red Willow Band and Abi Tapia.

The "Texafrance 3-Pack" is available for just $37 and Dakota Lullaby CD/T-shirt package for $25.  And "One More Christmas" is still one of our favorite musical efforts.

Visit the MoonHouse Records website to learn more and for song samples and easy purchase options for CDs, digital album downloads and t-shirts.

MoonHouse Studio  has been rocking again with band sessions for Sarah Smith, Lane Hedeman, Loagan and Jenny Gillespie.  The new 7 foot Baldwin grand piano is in position and the Bechstein was purchased by local legend Ian McLagan for his home studio.

Every Christmas Eve for 8 years Chris Gage put his young sons Sam and Casey on the spot and on video tape.  Each year they would recite another chapter of "The Night Before Christmas.

The result is a captivating glimpse of these young boys growing into men before your very eyes.  They agreed recently to share this video with the world.  Watch it on YouTube here.  Merry Christmas!

The TCA provides grants to arts presenters, schools, libraries, theaters and other non-profits throughout Texas to help with the cost of bringing in artists from the roster.

A reminder that Christine Albert's French Show has been approved for inclusion on the new Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season.  So, if you know of a school, non-profit arts organization (grants are not available for fundraising events), etc that would like to host Ms. Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind.  The deadline for Arts Respond Performance Support Grants is January 15, 2011 for performances April 1, 2011-August 31, 2011. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding for an A&G show through Christine's account, since Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)

Christine and Professor Jacki Thomas of Texas A&M - Kingsville are developing listening comprehension exercises as a companion to the Texafrance music - perfect for the classroom or for individuals learning French on their own.  More soon about "Texafrance - Ecoutez!"

Check out Christine's blog - "As Grows the Garden"
an experiment in making a commitment to something for no other reason than to satisfy a creative longing to write and to dig in the dirt.

(I started this a year ago this month and have not been very consistent lately.  Life intervened, but I'm keeping it alive this next year so hang in there with me! - CA)

A note from Christine:
I don't know why today was a satisfying day.  Yesterday I felt exhausted and overwhelmed.  Today with all of the same elements at play in my life, I felt inspired and content.  What's up with that?
Nothing huge happened, but I had a couple of great meetings about Swan Songs with people whose passion and support energized me and gave me hope.  I was up early and got to let my body wake up with the natural world around me.  I spent an hour with Chris's mom, filing her nails and chatting.  Her mind has holes created by Alzheimer's Disease but it's just details and time and space and memory; she's actually quite light hearted these days and fun to talk to.  She's also very appreciative of the loving care she receives and seems to be consciously choosing gratitude for what she has instead of bitterness in the face of what she's losing.
She told me today that she of course can't do gifts this year.  Watching her embrace the moment is her gift to me.  I am going to wrap it up and put it under my tree.
May you too receive treasures of the spirit!
     Love, Christine
  And a blurb from Chris:
If you've never been to Donn's Depot, this month you should check it out.  Every year on the Sunday after Thanksgiving Donn, Arlene and Matt Adelman have all the bartenders and waitresses come in and transform this train-themed nightclub into a Christmassy festival of lights.  I haven't seen it yet this year but apparently it's over the top.  It always inspires me to bring out the holiday classics for my Monday nights at the piano.  A couple crowd favorites..."River" by Joni Mitchell (it takes a real man to sing Joni Mitchell) and "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi, the piano theme from Charlie Brown that often fills the dance floor with happy people doing the Snoopy Dance.  I've been performing Mondays at Donn's for 16 years now...believe it or not I had that regular gig before I ever met Christine Albert.  Time certainly does fly.
Heading into a new year always gives me hope.  I'll lose weight, I'll make more money, my ship will come know.  Wish me luck.
See you at the gig (I hope).
