News from the musical world of Christine Albert and Chris Gage
February 2012

Hey and howdy, friends and neighbors, salutations from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas.

Lots of traveling this month, including 5 nights in LA attending Grammy related events.  Christine is now Madame Vice Chair of The Recording Academy, so it's a busy week leading up to the Grammy Awards on February 12.  Our favorite ceremony presents the Lifetime Achievement Awards, Trustee Awards and Technical Grammys...a celebration of long and illustrious careers and significant contributions to the world of music, both on and off stage.  It is always inspiring.  Christine will also travel to Memphis for a couple of days, attending the Folk Alliance conference on behalf of The Recording Academy and will end the month in LA for 3 days of meetings.  Chris will truck around with Jerry Jeff, hold down the fort at home and work his magic in the studio.

Valentine's is this month and Christine will be performing her annual French Show at the American Legion Hall around the corner from Donn's Depot.  Tickets are starting to fly out the door for this romantic indoor picnic opportunity.  Learn more and order your tickets HERE.  There are tickets left, but not many!!  Act now...

Today's photo essay is from a past tour of Italy.  We visited our Euro drummer Oscar Abelli in his home town of Parma in 2002.  We've been in touch recently, as he's trying to arrange a couple of dates in Italy for our upcoming fan tour of Europe - which is looking like it will include Switzerland, Italy, Germany and maybe France. should totally come with us on this one! We're working out the details and should have specific information in the next couple of weeks.  Check out Chris' tour photos to get excited.

Thanks for your support, as always.

A note from Christine:

I just returned from a lovely short trip to San Francisco.  I was honored to introduce the Grammy Award nominees from the Bay Area at a reception in the historical Green Room of the War Memorial Building.  What a soulful city and i love meeting fellow musicians who are Recording Academy members around the country.  I also got to visit with a very dear old friend and have dinner with a dear new friend.  Not bad, all in all, although it would have been better with Chris by my side.
It's Grammy time - and I don't mean the awards.  We get to babysit for our new grandson, Brody, on Super Bowl Sunday for the first time!  This Grammy is excited!!!  I have a book I bought at a thrift store while we were awaiting his arrival, filled with games to play during the first year and I am reviewing the 7-8 months old chapter.  Brody has hip dysplasia and both of his legs are in a cast right now to correct the condition, so he can't crawl around.  But, he is the happiest little guy I know and hangs out cheerfully in his bean bag chair...which is where you'll find me that day, sitting in front of him reading books, making faces, singing songs and basically having the time of my life.  Brody is already fascinated by Grandpa Chris - he watches him like a hawk and always seems quite amused by him.
Okay, back to accounting and emails, scouring thrift stores for Grammy clothes (as in red carpet events - I have plenty of the grandmother variety) and gearing up for tonight's gig.

  And a blurb from Chris:
I feel blessed to feel so at home in a city so alive with music.  I've been in the studio so much because these folks here are creating new music constantly.  Piano and accordion with Bob Cheevers, piano with Aaron Watson, guitars and mandolin with Sunny Shipley, piano with the Flyin' A''s been a great couple of studio months.  It keeps my brain alive and my hands strong.  Thank you all for trusting me on your recordings.
I will accompany Madame Vice Chair to the Grammy celebration.  She's away from home a lot, on the phone a lot and dead tired a lot, but the payoff comes when we have great seats for Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga.  A couple cool events we attend include the Lifetime Achievement Awards where we've seen Brenda Lee, Leonard Cohen and The Band, the pre-telecast where all the great roots and classical musicians are honored earlier in the day before the Grammy telecast, and the esteemed invitation we receive to the Party of the Century hosted by Clive Davis, where we've seen everyone from Kings of Leon to Whitney Houston perform.  Oh, and they sometimes have big blocks of ice that your martini flows through right into your glass.  (I'm easily impressed, and love a good martini).  Look for us in the crowd!
Our garden is popping with greens, onions, snap peas and beets.  It's amazing, we finally got some rain and the little green guys started shooting for the sky.  I built four 4 x 10 foot cedar boxes out of 2 by 12 and finally got pavers all the way around.  Pictures next month.

See you at the gig.

It's A New Couch

We still have this couch.  Fast motion silliness as Marley Forman and I bring in a new couch to the music of the Nash Hernandez Orchestra.

Jerry Jeff Walker - Down in Belize
A beautiful collection of video clips from Jerry Jeff's home on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize, and the neighboring town of San Pedro.

Chris' latest short film is a collection of street musicians filmed during travels in the US and abroad.

A reminder that Christine Albert's French Show has been approved for inclusion on the new Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season.  So, if you know of a school, non-profit arts organization (grants are not available for fundraising events), etc that would like to host Ms. Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind.  The next deadline for Arts Respond Performance Support Grants is May 1, 2012 for performances June 15 - August 31, 2012. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding for an A&G show through Christine's account, since Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)
