News from the musical world of Christine Albert and Chris Gage
March 2012

Coming to Houston this weekend - Unitunes on Saturday, March 3!!

Hey and howdy, friends and neighbors, salutations from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas.

The doors are open and the oak leaves are falling here in Austin.  Every year we know SXSW is coming because it coincides with our world being smothered by those tough old leaves from the majestic live oaks that tower over our home.  30 brown recycling bags later we sweep up the piles of fluffy, bright green pollen that dust our cars, plants, cat and driveway.  Spring has sprung.

February was filled with travel, especially for Christine, and we'll balance that in March with an Austin-centric month.  Just one quick trip to LA for Ms. Albert.  Chris helps Jerry Jeff celebrate his 70th birthday with the Annual Jerry Jeff Birthday Bash weekend at the end of the month - two great shows at The Paramount Theater and Gruene Hall.

Grammy Week was amazing, although losing Whitney Houston in the middle of it all was very sad.  We experienced a major cultural event up close and the performances that night by some of her closest friends and colleagues were off the charts with emotion and passion.

New Albert and Gage songs are percolating and we're starting to plan a new CD with a late 2012 release.  Hope to do some writing while the suitcases are in the closet for a few weeks.

Chris' photo-essay this month was all taken today, March 2, 2012.  Our winter garden is in full bloom and the spring bedding plants have been nestled in to get a head start.  We've got onions, lettuce, chard, kale, snap peas, radishes, turnips and beets.  Carrots and leeks still might treat us right, but they need some sun.  Enjoy.

Speaking of photos....Chris' Monday night at Donn's Depot snuck itself into a New York Times slideshow this morning.  The piece was called "36 hours in Austin, Texas" under the Travel heading.  Granted, it's about the club and the piano player is kind of blurry, but hey! He's in the NYTimes.  Here's the link.  http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2012/03/04/travel/04AUSTIN.html  (Check out picture 17/18).

Thanks for the ever flowing support,
Chris and Christine

Join us in Europe

We're working on a European "fan trip" that allows us to take a bunch of you with us this fall.  Details are slow to come, but we wanted to give you some tentative dates to look at.  It'll be a blast, to be sure.

Germany - October 11-14 - four shows  (Oh, the schnitzel)
Switzerland (maybe France) - October 17-20 - four shows (Fondue will prevail)
Italy - October 22 - possible show

This is all in process and we don't have information yet about cost, transportation, where and when to fly in and out, etc.  As you can see, there is a lot to clarify, but many folks have asked and are awaiting the specifics.  We wanted to at least let you know the time frame.

Please send us an email if you'd like information as soon as it comes in.

A note from Christine:

To be totally honest, I am at a loss as to what to write about today.  I just got home from yet another trip and my mind is a blank slate - as in too tired to think as opposed to some Zen like clarity.
Actually, my meditation/songwriting room still has Christmas wrapping paper and paraphernalia spread across the floor.  There hasn't been much contemplation in there recently and the song ideas are buried under a pile of Christmas cards.  It's hard for me to believe that it's almost spring break week and tax time.
However, much of my rare home time this year has been devoted to learning a new accounting program, so I have made some progress on the old receipts and tax tasks.  We're making major changes in Swan Songs accounting and database management, so I decided to switch our businesses over at the same time.  There's been a real learning curve but I've actually enjoyed the process.
I've always had two distinct parts of me vying for attention.  The creative soul who longs to express herself through words and music and bows to her intuition and heart.  Then there's the Virgo business detail brain who thrives on systems management, organizing information and collaborative team work;  she loves order, accomplishment and right angles.  (Actually, I just "accidentally typed "right angels" - hmmm)
I continually work to balance the two.  I look forward to recording new music this year and then I'll let the Virgo take over to send it out into the world.
And round and round we go.
     Love, Christine

  And a blurb from Chris:
Boy, it's great to be alive, huh?  Spring has sprung in Texas and the cycle begins again.  The oak leaves will fill the driveway, then the nasty oak pollen will turn everything in our yard an ugly green color.  I will try not to breathe in any of that crap, because it's the one thing that gets my head messed up.  I have to tip toe across the pollen and then get away from my shoes!
The garden looks great, I hope you liked the photos.  The big change was the 2 by 12 cedar boxes I built as raised beds.  Then Christine and I got on our hands and knees and tried to level the pavers all the way around so we can harvest our bounty without getting to darn muddy.  All the cats in the neighborhood enjoy the maze and chase each other around...as I continually chase them OUT of the very inviting big boxes of dirt.  Out damn cat, out I say!
For those who care, my mom is hanging in there and continues to amaze us.  Her naps get longer and deeper....  My dad was here a month ago and just celebrated his Feb. 29 anniversary.  Every four years.  I've been in touch with my whole family recently, and it feels good.  I get caught up in my own world and don't always communicate enough.  A shout out to one brother who's been emailing and to another who's recovering from emergency appendix removal.  Yikes.  My little sister has become a concert buff, and my lovely niece is coming this weekend so I get to meet her new husband.
Like I said, it's great to be alive.  Oh, and did you see my picture in the NYTimes?
     See you at the gig,
     Chris

A reminder that Christine Albert's French Show has been approved for inclusion on the new Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season.  So, if you know of a school, non-profit arts organization (grants are not available for fundraising events), etc that would like to host Ms. Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind.  The next deadline for Arts Respond Performance Support Grants is May 1, 2012 for performances June 15 - August 31, 2012. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding for an A&G show through Christine's account, since Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)
