News from the musical world of Christine Albert and Chris Gage

Hey and howdy, friends and neighbors, salutations from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas where the temperatures have dropped and it's finally been raining.  Water from the sky!  In Texas!!

Ms. Albert is in town for the month of October, and we're actually performing quite a bit.  We'll be in Houston, Arlington, Austin and Kerrville.  It's a Texas tour...we might need tour jackets and a bus!  Please come out and see us.  We've added an amazing saxophone player, Steve Bernstein, to our monthly Saturday shows at Donn's Depot; you've got to hear this guy.  We're back at our favorite pie and coffee show, The Open Door in Arlington, Chris plays with country stars Rick Trevino and Jerry Jeff Walker, and we'll both be at our weekly Monday shows all month long.

Swan Songs fundraiser set for October 30!!!!

Please read on about how you can support Swan Songs, the non-profit founded by Ms. Albert that fulfills musical last wishes for individuals with a terminal illness.  They have organized 64 concerts so far this year and the requests are coming at a steady pace.  The event on October 30 is not to miss!  Last year the concert featured Eliza Gilkyson and the year before, Jerry Jeff Walker.  Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock have stepped up this year...going to be another great evening.

The photos this month are from a Jerry Jeff gig at the Washington County Fair in Brenham, Texas.  It's Texas' oldest county fair.

As always, thank you for the support,
Chris and Christine

Merry Ellen is a dear friend and the sweetest 82 year old ball of fire you'll ever meet.  If you've heard us in Houston, you've probably seen her in the audience (or Maine, Austin, California or Las Vegas - she's been to see us all those places as well!)  She is a devoted music fan who was still going out to shows 5 nights a week until she fell ill in California a few months ago.  She's out there recuperating and we're banding together in Houston to honor her - who knows, maybe she'll make it to the gig!  With her homemade sugared pecans, of course.

A note from Christine:
For the first time in several months I actually put my suitcase away, took my earrings out of their little travel case and switched from a huge travel purse to something more town friendly. A last minute trip could arise, but as it stands now I will be close to home until mid November, when I will be gone for two solid weeks on Recording Academy business.  Of course, part of that is attending the Latin GRAMMYs in Las Vegas, so I wouldn't feel too sorry for me.  Chris will join me and we'll even be able to sneak in some family time amidst the events that week.
Spending two days in the studio for my birthday was a joy and I feel great about the beginning of this new CD.  Of course, I haven't had a day since to get back in the studio and meanwhile Chris began recording the most beautiful instrumental Christmas music I've ever heard.  Truly gorgeous - it's long overdue for him to turn that musical genius into something all his own.  My CD will come out after the first of the year so that we are not rushed getting two projects ready.  Obviously his is seasonal so it would be very sad to have to wait a year for its release because my project pulled him away from it when he's so close to completion.
Looking forward to playing some of our favorite venues this month - Open Door in Arlington and Central Market in Austin; the Swan Songs Serenade promises to be a moving and entertaining evening;  and the benefit for Merry Ellen in Houston is going to be as special as the woman herself.
     Love, Christine

  And a blurb from Chris:
My studio business comes in waves...I've been in the middle of five projects at once, and they all finished up at about the same time, leaving me with nothing scheduled.  What do we do when there's no outside clients scheduled?  We make records!!
Christine has been working on songs that lend themselves more to her solo style than to an Albert and Gage project, so we're recording her first non-French solo CD in about 20 years!!  A few of the songs have been in our set for a while, but you're going to hear some brand new songs and some very tasty covers of great songs by other writers, including a beautiful version of "For a Dancer" by Jackson Browne.  A couple new Tom Peterson songs will magically appear on this CD as well.  Exciting stuff.
And....I've decided to buckle down and record an instrumental Christmas CD using all of my favorite guitars, mandolins, accordions, pianos, a little dobro...I might stop short of recording the dulcimer, but who knows.  It's all old carols, my favorites.  Christmas has always been special to me, and Christmas music resonates in my entire being.  I'm known to quote Christmas carols in my guitar solos in the middle of July!
Our plan is to have this CD released in plenty of time for you to send to all your friends and family, and we hope you will.  By the next newsletter, we'll have ordering info.  Christmas is coming!
     Ciao for now.

     See you at the gig!
