News from the musical world of Christine Albert and Chris Gage
SEPTEMBER 2013

Hey and howdy, friends and neighbors, salutations from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas where the yard looks as stressed and burned out as we feel! :-)

We're sorry we missed the August newsletter.  It was hard to find a moment and we finally surrendered to the fact that it wasn't going to happen.  Even with a lighter gig schedule our calendars have been booked solid with Christine's duties with The Recording Academy, planning a fall fundraiser for Swan Songs, studio clients, gigs in South Dakota and California and getting ready to record a new Christine Albert CD and a Chris Gage instrumental Christmas CD.

We still have a relatively light performance schedule, so please come join our audience when you can.  Please read on about how you can support Swan Songs, the non-profit founded by Ms. Albert that fulfills musical last wishes for individuals with a terminal illness.  They have organized 53 concerts so far this year and the requests are coming at a steady pace.  The event on October 30 is not to miss!  Last year the concert featured Eliza Gilkyson and the year before, Jerry Jeff Walker.  Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock have stepped up this year...going to be another great evening.

Mr. Gage has been creative lately, check out his musicianfoodie blog and the new MoonHouse Studio video.

As always, thank you for the support,
Chris and Christine

Gingersnaps that really snap.  This recipe is online here.

A note from Christine:
I do love to eat, and watch Chris cook.  Okay - I confess.  He wrote his letter first so I'm jumping on his opening line.
Usually these days I'm the one traveling and Chris holds down the fort.  When I arrive home, weary from my long meetings and flights, there is some fresh pear butter he whipped up, or twenty bags of Hatch green chile - roasted, peeled and in the freezer ready to transform at a moment's notice.
Last week he left town for a few days to play with Jerry Jeff at the Minnesota Zoo.  Let's see.  I worked 12 hour days and ate out - once at a chain Italian restaurant that shall remain nameless and once at our favorite neighborhood Mexican restaurant, Casa Maria (which also happens to be where we had our wedding dinner ten years ago.)  However, I was super proud of the fact that I actually went to a grocery store to buy the kind of stuff I like to have in the house - Ezekial Seed Bread, plain yogurt, kale and beets for fresh juice, English Breakfast tea...granted it's just Christine breakfast food and doesn't feed the family of gourmands that we have raised, but hey - I'm trying!
Meanwhile, I'm trying to nourish my muse by writing and preparing to record the first non-French Christine Albert solo CD in 20 years. (Thank you to my team of Patron Angels.) We begin recording September 11 and 12 (my birthday) and I can't think of a better way to celebrate the start of another year on this planet.

     Love, Christine

  And a blurb from Chris:
I do love to cook, and eat.  I watch almost every cooking competition show that comes on the food network, I devour Cook's Illustrated magazine every two months, my freezer is full of vacuum sealed meals that I've cooked recently, etc.  I've never been drawn to writing or blogging other than this little note every month and some infrequent Facebook postings.
That being said, I'm loving the musician/foodie blog that I've been writing.  It forces me to keep track of what I'm cooking, take a few pictures and then try to describe the process with at least a little bit of interest and excitement.  I've watched the movie "Julie and Julia" several times...it's about a young woman who blogs as she cooks every recipe in Julia Child's cookbook.  There's a scene in the movie where she realizes that her blog is being read and that people are following her.  It was quite a shock when that happened to me!  All of a sudden people from all over were tuning in to my little story and leaving me a comment or two.
Granted, I don't think my blog will every inspire a major motion picture, but I'm having a good time with it.  I have one friend who is going to live with a chef in Belize, send me recipes, and I'll write about trying to recreate those island dishes.  Anyone else have a good idea?

     See you at the gig!
