News from the musical world of Christine Albert and Chris Gage
SEPTEMBER 2014

Hey and howdy, friends and neighbors, salutations from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas where the pears have turned to butter and the lawn is a lovely burnt tan color.

We've been busy around town, busy travelling, Christine is running Swan Songs and the Recording Academy, Chris has 3 weekly gigs to play around the studio schedule, Christine's been in Los Angeles, Chris has been in Portland and Napa, Christine's solo CD is about to hit the streets, Chris is working on a major equipment upgrade to the studio, Yoda stays cool on the kitchen floor while Chippy prefers to perch on the porch railing and enjoy the heat.

Christine's non-profit, Swan Songs, marks another year of fulfilling musical last wishes with the 2014 Swan Songs Serenade featuring the legendary Ray Benson with hot jazz-grass ensemble MilkDrive.  The fundraiser takes place October 29 at Shoal Crossing Event Center in Austin and tickets are on sale now.  Sponsorships are also available and Swan Songs welcomes any donations to the silent auction. For more information, please visit the event page at the Swan Songs website.

Our tribe bids farewell to dear friend Art Blondin.  Art kept a zillion musicians working at his famous restaurant Artz Ribhouse on S. Lamar in Austin.  The best baby back ribs in the state of Texas, and lots of fond memories.  Goodbye, old friend.

This month we celebrate the release of Christine's new CD "Everything's Beautiful Now." We produced it together and Chris plays all over the thing, but it is a very personal project for Christine.  The album explores the richness of loss and John Conquest with 3rd Coast Magazine said "Albert...is a remarkable songwriter, addressing what she calls 'a rite of passage,' while steering well clear of maudlin sentiment."  There are CD release shows in Crockett, Arlington, Austin and Houston and the CD will be available on iTunes, CDbaby and Waterloo Records in Austin beginning September 8.

This month's e-News is peppered with photographs Chris took with our friend Winker's camera he's been borrowing.  Winker (hi, Bud) is in New York helping out his parents through a difficult time and we miss him dearly.  He's the semi-official Monday Night at Donn's Depot photographer (click here for pics), and Chris' camera guru.  Thanks, Winker, and come home soon.

As always, thank you for the support...
Chris and Christine

A note from Christine...
Leaving for Taos this morning after a late gig last night...I should be packing but I am enjoying adding some tidbits to the newsletter.  Chris does the bulk of the work and then I get to come in and add some stuff near and dear to my heart (Swan Songs, the new CD); and it's fun to see what pictures he chose to highlight.
I'll take a few trips this month as well.  It's always good to get a dose of my sweet New Mexico, green chile enchiladas and old friends; later in the month I'll be part of a panel about the GRAMMY organization at the Americana Music Association conference in Nashville.  I'll hear some great music and attend panels about things I need to learn to sharpen my creative and business skills. After almost 40 years as a professional musician, there is always more to learn.
I close the month with yet another trip to Beverly Hills.  It'll be good to be back in the hood. :-)
Love and appreciation are in our hearts for our old friend Art Blondin, and our deepest sympathy to his wife Zee.  My new CD just took on another layer of meaning.
     Love,
          Christine

  And a blurb from Chris...
People ask me often if I travel a lot, and I usually say "not so much anymore".  But...then as I'm clearing off my dresser I find boarding passes from a trip to Portland, one to Napa, (exactly one week before the earthquake), plus our schedule shows that we've been in Denver, South Dakota, New York City...and we leave tomorrow to play a show in Taos, New Mexico.  So, I guess I still travel quite a bit.
The members of Roy Clark's band do some messaging on Facebook, sharing YouTube videos and photos from the old days, and I remember that for 8 years I spent at least 250 days a year on the road, quite often sleeping in a bunk on a tour bus and just getting into a hotel room long enough for a quick shower and a phone call. (How did we manage before cell phones?).  Here's a YouTube video of me playing piano on Hee Haw with Hank Thompson.
We hope you'll keep coming out to the shows...it's what keeps us going.  You're going to love Christine's new CD "Everything's Beautiful Now".  It's a labor of love with a theme of loss, of which we've seen our share lately.
Hug somebody close.  See you at the gig!
     Chris
